Yes, I have cut it with sound and music, most of the scenes are in place. It was long day today, or shall I say long 10 weeks of the course. Tomorrow I should have my reel and Mi kha-El the movie burned to dvd and handed over to Steve and Kimo.
Unfortunately finishing this piece now at 23:39 doesn't leave me much time for the show reel, or sleep maybe?
Enjoy! There is some cracking sounds, i think because the DV I encoder, never used it before, well there would be time for the fine tuning before September.
The large screen link would be updated soon with the whole version of the movie.
It was a hard time , but I got there in the end, hope there would be people who enjoy this movie.

Fight keysa and limited animation.

i set my self for finishing the fight and most of the whole animation for Thursday,
since the show is on Friday, so now it is a time to get on with it, and part of the keys for the fight scene to look at

in order to finish this would be limited animation ,but i belive it come out just fine,

Colour scheme and a voice for the knight.

During the time when I was trying to get it done for the deadline I decided on colour scheme for the whole project, for today still got few days to finish the fight scene for Thursday lets hope I can make it, today still coloring and correcting other scenes.
Also I added voice over it is for a test ,have been thinking long time about this, and if you watching the fight scene is missing, and some editing is really bad, it all would be fixed soon.

I found my music, and thanks to generosity of Dan Conway from Don Duan Production I have a tune which really suits my piece, I hope when it will all be finished and edited effect would be much better then it is in this rough cut.

run ...i internal between flying i decided to do the run again

and today on my Google art of the day i get to see Hans Memling:
The Last Judgment oil on panel, 1467-71 Muzeum Narodowe, Gdansk, I remember i use to be fascinated by that painting, it was really inspiring and the style, skill of the painter amazed me and few other friends at our art school back in Poland, and also important we were so proud to have this painting in Gdansk in National Museum, in grand gothick 'Mariacki' church located at Gdansk old town ,there is a copy of this painting available for viewing whenever we wonder around there...and the story of how the painting got in Poles hands, stolen by polish pirates (kaper) from merchant ship,it was just great painting with a great story ,nothing new I guess most of the art was stolen at some point ;-)Now looking at it again I wonder maybe that is why I chosen the Bermejo piece , because it reminded me of this art work..

A question, who can tell me where is Archangel Michael on Memling painting ?

I always like to see it on the vimeo, I don't know why, maybe the size makes it more believable, today I was working on that jump and flight, ans I know now I need up and down movement !!!

and a change of template on the blog , having so dark story momentarily, i decidet to uplift it with the classic white surroundings, also I am starting to work on my website , redoing it all.

Jugment Day at G12 Summit

Today we had a crit of our work in progress and supposable we were meeting the musicians at G12, is some room at CSM... It is a second time I felt that Pop Idol style critique is on the rise, only one thing I am missing is the Gordon Ramsey language ... I can say I have done nothing this week and I am proud of this, because I am getting tired of this so called practical approach to life, simple rat race, I feel like my animation or the idea I am trying to get across is not really been welcome by the world in which ( it is o.k ) wasting food and grass for the sake of some art and fun of few( as long someone is making some cash out of it), I would like to protest. Not everything has to be easy to read and understand , not everything in life is, there is always things above us and will be. So I don't feel like I have to compromise . I would like to do a good commercial piece too, one day but maybe it is not yet.
Call me mad.

This is I would call a creative critique by someone on this project...
'I think a sense of film editing is greatly missing. You are making the mistake of so many beginners by treating the animatic as you would a cartoon strip.

Change camera angles a lot, particularly for a dramatic fight sequence. Envisage yourself as a cameraman first and a draftsman second. Jump around the stage (follow the 180 degree rule though as much as necessary) and swoop in and out. A dramatic and fierce fight would look as confusing as a hockey game at times and so should the animatic. The cameraman might get too close to the action; almost in the way and have a few close calls etc. etc...

None of this is reflected in your layouts. Be less concerned with the elegance of the drawings and more with the elegance of poses and continuity. Animatics shouldn't necessarily have a rhythmic evenness of frame changes. This is not an automated slide show so express drama through the lengths of durations between frame changes.

Start with a floor diagrams of the stage (not part of an animatic but as part of your preparation to draw an animatic). Position the actors and select where the camera should be just as a film director would do for his cameraman and actors.'

when I work in Mirage, lightable, light box, still having lost of problems using it, easier on paper I find, I guess more practice, I think once mastered it is a great tool

size change is an issue , but try to connect to the style, also learning it to do in mirage using Wacom tablet take its toll, I am happy , because it all is a learning expiernience ...

Animatic

This is the fullest animatic so far, all the scenes and timing, bit too fast ? Maybes , it does fit the minute, still I think I want to put a cut with moving hold when the fight happens, because there is this middle rather unexplained and fully readable.

I haven't got much time lately to get on the blog, so those are the panels from my storyboard
on which I will base my animatic, i am going to post some more grawings i next post and some clips from animatic i have been working on. After next week the animatic schould be finished and on the blog.On Friday we have a crit at National Gallery.First week at school was good , didnt like the animation I made , but it is time to think about this project now, School and work on the weeknds again, not much time to think.

Storyboard

This is my storyboard for this project, it is bit rough , maybe to rough . I turned it into video clip since I have draw this in mirage and the output options are video clip or a printout of frames.
It is now about 33 seconds, but I think it goes to fast so just now it would be fine, I think I need more happening within the combat scene. I would require to take more photos at locations so I have better reference for the rest of backgrounds and proper look of the Nelson column and him of course. I waiting for some comments guys if you have any idea to make it better, or try to work more on it and get some feedback on Monday back at school.

Todays drawings

I
have been working on the storyboard lately, trying to draw it straight into computer using Mirage ,it is not ready yet so I want show anything yet, today at work I had time to do some more drawings, so I will post them now, some combat scenes or thumbs and the lip sync character , donor from the painting, I am not going very far from the painting , it all is so close to the story in the painting already, but I am a simple mind and hope to keep it that way. Hope to have the storyboards ready before the 16th. I found it to quite hard working at home, my boy wants to play and go visit all the playgrounds around, so better do that most of the time, no frustration, unlike when I choose to do something, got to plan everything so everyone is happy.

12 more days left and I ll be back at school working on this project, last few days were pretty non creative days,and I haven't spend much time thinking about this project.
I guess it is time to get on with it with the STORYBOARDS ready for 16th, and animatic 0n 27th April ,deadlines are looking more real from day to day now, in meanwhile some more sketches of the beast.

animating with Mirage

When I come around Mirage Studio 1.5 I was really impressed with the effects people using it have achieved, although I found it it not the easiest software to use and lots of gimcrackery is needed. Most impressive for me was that the drawing will have the hand drawn quality, with expressive rough line if it that what you after, and I think I am . Althought trying to use it with my trust tablet it didnt really feel quite exact s, when i try to draw into it.
Wacom here it comes, with a wacom tablet it is much better feeling I can almost feel my hand in side computer screen and only thing now is left is more practice.
I am considering to create this whole project as a hand drawn animation with use of a wacom tablet using Mirage Software (TV Paint v.7 actually) the new versions are even much better having more spectacular functions, like rotating disc and x sheets.

This animated gif below took me really a couple of minutes, the cape is not really properly animated , but I wanted to get some rough and quick idea visualised. I think Mirage will be really time saving tool.

I have done some more drawings this week, my new job at the theater allows me to draw and read in free time, so time I spend there is productive, nice and quiet atmosphere proves to be good environment.
Those drawings are more to develop the idea of characters and I am trying to achieve right poses for them, still need more then what I have.I am thinking to use the donor from the painting for a lip sync,this is fresh idea. I think I need to watch some films where I can see some combat scenes, actually yesterday I was trying to act out one of the poses for the angel, so video reference need to be prepared.
I had that idea of going to Trafalgar Square early morning when its empty to record some material there, it may prove difficult to find someone who like to assist with the camera. Can't film myself can I? ;-)
also I had setup a folder structure for my project, so I can keep it all tidy, different folders for various files, it may proof usefully structuring it from the start. The Google spell checker is just wicked it even tells you that you should write google with the capital letter. Technology eyy!!

This is just some thumbnail sketches to help me visualize what will happen and how, more sketch then a storyboard, good for me so I can look at it and think, how and where to go, I don't really like to tight storyboards, because they are more like a product not an statement of idea, I loved Roman Polanski storyboards when I saw them for the first time this year and , those are great and so simple , but generating and showing what should be known to him and others?
So maybe it is not an Audi but I love it!Rough and mine.

Blog, blag, blog here we go, time to start this trendy show...
Well I thought it would be good to try this blogging experience, alhought I would us this more like a working diary or a sketch book.
Whats is it about, we have this great project to create animation by being inspired by one painting from collection at National Gallery.
So this is my choice and what I would try to achieve in upcoming weeks, be the judges if you ever come across this place,and bear in mind that English is my second language.
